About me
Background
My name is Shuibe (Shu-Ayb) Abdu, and I am a junior at the University of Texas at Dallas, majoring in Computer Information Systems Technology with a concentration in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics. My family and I are originally from Ethiopia, though we also lived in Kenya and Saudi Arabia before moving to the Dallas area in 2012. I graduated from L.V. Berkner STEM Academy in Richardson,TX in 2022 and then attended Dallas College, where I earned a spot on the Provost's Honor Roll. In the fall of 2024, I transferred to the University of Texas at Dallas to pursue my bachelor's degree and further my academic and professional goals.
Working out/Rock Climbing
Exercise is more than just a hobby for me—it has become a vital part of my life. My passion for fitness has not only driven me to maintain consistent workout routines but has also led me to discover rock climbing, a sport that has become one of my favorite activities. Rock climbing allows me to set clear goals and develop strategic plans to achieve them, which challenges me mentally and physically. It complements my weekly workout splits by enhancing my strength and endurance while offering a fresh and exciting way to stay active and push my limits.
Projects
Professional Communication Through Team Collaboration
For my business communication class, my team and I worked on a project titled "Ethics in Job Searching." The objective was to present professional and precise information in a clear, concise, and visually appealing format. Together, we utilized our PowerPoint skills to design and format the presentation, ensuring that the layout effectively conveyed our information while maintaining a polished and professional aesthetic. I contributed to the "Networking and Connections" section and selected the overall design for the presentation. This project taught me the importance of collaboration, visual communication, and preparation. While I initially struggled with oral delivery in a professional setting, rehearsing with my team and preparing a script significantly improved my confidence and presentation skills.
Data Analysis
​This "Workout Data Analysis" project showcases my ability to organize and analyze data using Excel, highlighting skills such as table formatting and data visualization with charts. Over the month of July, I meticulously tracked my workout routine, logging details like exercise types, durations, repetitions, and weight volumes. Through this process, I reflected on what data would best illustrate my fitness journey and selected four key charts demonstrating trends, progress, and insights from my workouts. These visualizations communicate the results of my efforts and reflect my learning in effectively presenting meaningful data to draw actionable conclusions. Full Workout Data
Email Editing Activity
For this email activity, I used Microsoft Word's track changes and editing tools to revise a manager's draft email before it was sent to her team. I suggested edits to enhance clarity, conciseness, and professionalism while ensuring that all critical information was preserved. By adding comments, I provided context for my suggestions, helping the manager understand the reasoning behind each change. Additionally, I identified and removed unnecessary content, making the email more focused and impactful. This activity demonstrates my ability to refine written communication while maintaining its original message and tone.
